11 Febbraio 2018The mainpurpose is to utilize only the power necessary for the ship’s (any ship) operative conditions.
Thisgoal can be applicable to many of theSystems on board.
Onboard Systems are usually designed to reach contractual performances under the worst conditions (I.E. Worst Environmental conditions, max Ship’s speed, etc.). If we install an Energy Saving System able to measure conditions ( I.E. Temperature , Pressure, etc.) and modulate the speed of thefans, pumps etc.by supplying only the necessary amount of Air or Water, we can save Energy.
For example, we recommend our Energy Saving System for the ventilation of the main diesel engine room and the diesel generator room.
The System automatically operates on the Fan’s Electric Motorsbased on two parameters, Pressure and Temperature (see transducer position on attached Drawing ). The objective is to control pressure and maintain acceptable temperatures inside the rooms, thereby saving energy, reducing the speed of the electric motor considering that the absorbed Power is related to the cube of Speed ( r.p.m. ).
The Energy Saving Amount is affected by the Ship’s Operation in terms of routes, meaning differing external temperatures.
In some operational areas,( ie: extreme cold Cold ) the Energy Saving can reach 80% while in other areas, (ie: heat Warm ) the savings are less than 20%.
The System has been tested in different operative conditions:
- ShipSailing
- Ship Berthing
- Ship Manoeuvring
The System gives the exact amount of absorbed KW as output, an instant value ( see DMR PLC screenshot below), and must be recorded to calculate theEnergy Saving Amount for a designated time period. The data provides evidence of important Energy Saving, even under favourable operating conditions.
The system can be completed with Data Logger connected to DMR PLC in Control Room enabling worldwide Remote Control of the system in order to optimize the energy saving through the remote calibration of set points. This would also allow the cruise company to receive a daily update on the energy saving in KWh and USD.
